From the USAID Fact Sheet #1 FY 2024:
9,900 cattle death has been recorded since the beginning of the 2023/24 season. 1,4million cattle are at risk of death. The July statistical model predicted that 47% of Zim wards will face critical grazing shortages and 76% wards will be having insufficient safe-drinking water for livestock -...(SADC reports)...
Have you ever come across a thirsty cow? To those who are involved in poultry farming, how do you know that your livestock are longing for water to drink?
These cattle used to drink water from this stream. For the past 10years, l haven't seen it so dry like this, meaning for 10years these cattle were drinking water from this source. However, due to the 2023/24 El-Nino induced drought, we are narrating a different story. Instead of seeing water flowing, it's only plastics!!!
Growing up in a rural community, if you see a cow or goat going straight to their usual water source or coming close to your household very early in the morning, my father always had a few words,"Mombe adzina kunwa mvura ka nezuro". It was a clear sign and it was very difficult for us to refuse.
What's the story in your community?
You see those sheep??? We tried to chase them away but it was impossible up until we decided to help them, their refusal was only a plea, 'give us water and we will never bother you today'
Where else would they go? If you force them to wonder in search of water, the higher the probability that you will never see them again . Livestock are a potential source of livelihoods for rural people.
Villa Farm Enterprise came up with a solution, a small project which we will be implementing soon. With your support, we can do so much. If you want to learn about how we are solving the water crisis, one village at a time and if you want to collaborate with us; #letsconnect - info@villafarme.com
