Land Fire

The 2024 National Fire Awareness Week was driven by the theme, "Prevent Veld Fires - Protect the Environment and Livelihoods".

A couple of consecutive days along the Dyke, I got robbed and the crying Mother Earth created a void deep within my heart. That void is slowly disappearing as I’m sharing this script – containing a message for the anguished Mother Earth, to the whole world.

A tiny spark can put the whole forest or house on fire, don’t under-estimate it. Before leaving the fireplace, make sure the fire is completely out; be sure there isn’t even a tiniest spark still surviving. This is where everything went otherwise for us – we didn’t check out our fire. Imagine what we could have lost – 3 calves, 13 sheep and over 25 goats!!. Don’t hesitate to call for help...

I still believe we all need to reshape our behavior towards fire handling. Our recklessness has resulted in uncontrolled fires causing much damage to Mother Earth and humanity. We are already suffering much due to Climate Change, the poor and the marginalised are the mainly affected
